Sayings of Macedonian origin
Where force rules, justice does not exist.
What one fool can ensnare, not a thousand sages can fix.
Think twice, say once.
The brain is not in the pocket, but in the head.
If my neighbor is happy, my own work will go easier, too.
Feed a dog, he stops barking at you.
Enjoy yourself; for there is nothing in the world we can call our own.
Brother does not feed his brother but it is hard not having one.
A good friend is recognized in times of trouble.
A bear that dances in your neighbor’s house might soon dance in yours.
Macedonia, officially the Republic of Macedonia, is a country located in the central Balkan Peninsula in Southeast Europe. It is one of the successor states of the former Yugoslavia, from which it declared independence in 1991. It became a member of the United Nations in 1993 but, as a result of a dispute with Greece over its name, it was admitted under the provisional reference of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia
The Macedonian is a South Slavic language, spoken as a first language by some two million people, principally in the Republic of Macedonia and the Macedonian Diaspora, with a smaller number of speakers throughout the transnational region of Macedonia. It is the official language of the Republic of Macedonia and an official minority language in parts of Albania, Romania and Serbia.
“Today over Macedonia” is the national anthem of Macedonia.
Lyrics:
Today over Macedonia, is being born
The new sun of liberty.
Macedonians are fighting,
Fighting for their rights!
Now once again the flag stands
The Forests of Macedonia are singing
New songs, new papers
Macedonia is liberated
Lives in liberty!
Macedonia is liberated
Lives in liberty!
Do not cry dear mother Macedonia,
Raise your head proudly high,
Macedonia is free
Free to live!
